One of the biggest employers in the village was J & R Howie, Fireclay Works at Galston Road. When I worked there in the early 50s with my Uncle Jimmy Forsyth (Bean) top row 4th from right to left. There were numerous workers who lived in the village. I have listed photos below. Hurlford Brass Band was active during August 1879 when it led the procession to inaugurate the Kilmarnock Burns Monument at Kay Park.
