When I was at Hurlford School, 1946-1956, the "Heidy" was William Anderson "Wearie Willie". "Wee Tooshie" Aird; Miss Gibson "Her wi' the blink"; Jean Cairney; Jimmy Whiteside, "Big Gill" Gillespie; Mr Jack Steele gym teacher; Big Frank Collins; Mr Spence science teacher; James Ferguson, English teacher; the janitor was Sanny Smith, who managed the school football team and who had played for Third Lanark FC. The local policeman was Sam Clark and Jimmy Ferguson who stayed in the police houses at Galston Road. Sam's daughter was a "stoater."
